Where is Bitcoin heading in 2026?

Bitcoin has had a turbulent start to the year, falling more than 20% since January 1st. Several media reports suggest the decline stems from a general "risk-off" consensus, especially among institutional investors.

We polled more than 280 high-net-worth investors last week to see where they expect the price to land by year-end. The results reveal one of the most even distributions I’ve ever seen in a Long Angle poll.

For context, Bitcoin closed 2025 around $87,500 and reached an all-time high above $120,000 in October 2025. At the time of the poll, the price was around $76,500.

The takeaway here is that there is no single “camp” on Bitcoin’s future:

  • The Bears (40% of respondents) expect a close below $75,000, which would be down at least 15% for the year.

  • The Bulls (35%) predict a recovery to $100,000 or above, representing 13%+ growth in 2026.

  • The Neutral (26%) see the price remaining relatively flat between $75,000 and $99,999.

No matter where the price lands, a significant portion of this group will be wrong.

Life, Health, & Family

What are my peers spending on financial, household, and child care services?

We surveyed Long Angle members to benchmark how high-net-worth families allocate spending across professional services in a typical year.

Unsurprisingly, the highest costs concentrate in child care and private schools, at around $20K–$50K+ annually. A middle tier, including wealth and property management, sits around $10K each.

The most interesting results are from the final cost tier, where completely unrelated services appear to share identical price points. It’s fascinating to see families spend similar amounts on an estate attorney and a housekeeper ($5K), or on a CPA and lawn care ($3K).

Other key benchmarks include:

  • Wellness services, both mental (therapist) and physical (trainer), cost around $5K annually.

  • Personal trainers cost double that of a sports coach (e.g., golf or tennis).

  • Pool services are only slightly cheaper than lawn care.

Private Market Perspectives

How should I approach 1031 exchanges for investment real estate?

A 1031 exchange allows investors to defer federal capital gains taxes by reinvesting sale proceeds into "like-kind" replacement property. While a powerful tool for compounding capital, it shouldn't always be the default choice.

When a 1031 exchange makes strategic sense:

  • Upgrading quality: consolidating lower-yield assets into institutional-quality properties.

  • Portfolio refinement: achieving geographic or property-type diversification, or transitioning from active to passive management.

  • Estate planning: leveraging the "step-up in basis" for heirs, which can effectively eliminate the deferred liability under current law.

When it doesn’t:

  • Low-gain sales: If the gain is small, paying the tax to gain full liquidity for other opportunities may yield a higher after-tax IRR.

  • Expected tax increases: If you anticipate significantly higher future tax rates, recognizing gains today at known rates can be advantageous.

Sophisticated investors model these trade-offs with advisors to compare after-tax returns across multiple scenarios.
